Meeting Minutes

SEPTEMBER 25, 2019

Opening

The regular meeting of the PETERBOROUGH MOTOR SPORTS CLUB was called to order at 7:13 PM on SEPTEMBER 25, 2019 at KELSEY’S ROADHOUSE IN PETERBOROUGH by President, Dan.

NOTE:  The club had to assemble in the main restaurant because the management double-booked the function room we were supposed to use.  The management offered free appetizers and set up two large tables for us.

Dan Demers, Len Arminio, Alain Cabardos, Louis Cabardos, Travis Grubb, Pete Gulliver, Peter Watt, Jay Quinn, Dave Chambers, Rich Courneya,, Doug Armstrong,  Brian Lynas, Dillon Macauliffe, Nathan Russell-Maharry.

ALSO: Tom Hyland (BARC) who signed up for a PMSC 2020 membership.

UPDATES

  • The latest points totals were circulated by Travis and Dan.
  • RALLY-X Pete G. outlined the successful RALLY-X season.
    • Between 16 and 27 cars were entered in the five events.
    • The series made a very small profit.
    • The same sponsors, Canadian Tire, Peterborough Mitzubishi and Burnt River have signed on for 2020
  • AUTO-CROSS Rich C. reported on a successful season thus far with one more event to go (as of this date) for a total of 11 events.
    • He suggested we reduce the number of events in 2020, perhaps to 8.
    • Travis reported the top three points (PAX) getters. Dillon, 2.Anthony C and Travis (tied).
    • The club will contact Kawartha Downs/Slots about 2020 dates.
    • Rich and Dan discussed having more night events on Friday or Saturday.
  • FUN RALLIES Dan reported we scheduled three fun rally events on Wednesday meeting nights in June, July and August.   The club has used these dates because the Musicfest operates on those nights except for August.  Dan proposed because we no longer will be meeting at the Souvlaki Pit, we can hold a regular June meeting with fun rallies in July and August.

 

  • TSD RALLIES Louis reported that the Spring Run Off Rally, an ORRC event was a success. The President’s Prize Rally, another ORRC event has been organized by Chris Johnson and is scheduled for October 26.
  • The Club level novice events were another story. The Watch Winder ran partially with teams made of folks who showed up to work. The Fall Ball was organized but cancelled due to no interest from members.   Louis said that rally could be used next year for the Watch Winder.
  • RALLY SPRINT Pete G (For organizer Peter Watt) said our rally sprint event is slated for November 2 at Burnt River.
    • Thus far, 15 cars have paid for entry to the event.
    • Pete said we need 18 control marshals, hopefully with radios.
  • KARTING NIGHT
    • One Kart night was organized by Rob Norval.
    • A second night was cancelled due to lack of interest

New Business

  • NEW TRAILER ?
    • Dan brought up the need for a new larger trailer to hold Rally-X equipment.
      • Discussion but no action
    • NEW SOLO LAPTOP
      • Travis and Dan discussed the need for a new laptop for Autocross events.
      • MOVED/SECONDED PETE G/BRIAN LYNAS
        • That the Executive (Travis Grubb?) be authorized to purchase a new laptop not exceeding $1,000. APPROVED
      • NEW WEBSITE
        • Pete G. presented a demo new PMSC.ON.CA website design created by Andrew and Teresa Marek.
          • There would be a setup fee plus routine maintenance fee.
          • Club would keep the Nexicom web hosting contract.
          • In addition, club member Jay Quinn expressed interest in being the content director for the new website.

          • That Pete G. consult with the Andrew and Teresa on the price of web development and maintenance and present it to the membership at the most convenient date with all parties.

  • PRESENTATION BY TOM HYLAND ON THE LUPUS GRAND PRIX
    • This is a fund-raising enduro karting event in support of Sick Children’s Hospital Lupus Clinic
    • Held at CTMP Kart Track, Sunday, October 6
    • Tom received several donations from club members.

 

  • PRESENTATION BY JAY QUINN AND NATHAN RUSSELL-MEHARRY
    • Jay and Nathan have established a local tire dealership, Tire Source Canada.
    • They propose their company be the official tire supplier for PMSC.
    • They will offer a special price for PMSC members of $10 over cost.
    • They currently have an online presence for orders and will deliver.
      • ACTION: EXECUTIVE WILL DISCUSS.

 

  • LUCKY DOG RACES
    • Doug A informed the meeting of a Champ Car style race series at CTMP, Shannonville and Calabogie.

 

  • 2020 ICE RACE SCHEDULE
    • PMSC will host the first CASC ice race in Minden.
    • January 18-19, 2020
    • Tim Fleguel is organizer and will be soliciting for workers very shortly.
